The Best Early '00s Fashion From "Lady Bird"
Lady Bird is a truly enchanting story of a teenage girl who's about to leave for college. It's not some fairy tale depiction of what being a 17-18 year old girl is — instead, it's real and visceral and something that everyone can relate to. It deals with home and place, and the main character, like many of us, is struggling to define her place in the world for herself and no one else.
I had the chance to see the film before it hit theaters, and because I don't want to spoil anything before it officially opens in select theaters on Nov. 3, instead of discussing too many aspects of the story, I'd like to focus on the fashion.
The film is set in 2002, and many of the outfits seen throughout the movie are very trendy at the moment — because retro is in. So, you can definitely let the story's main character, Christine, a.k.a. "Lady Bird" outfit choices inspire you own.
Here are just a few of the standout looks from the film along with similar versions that you can shop in 2017. Some of the pairings are nearly identical to each other and some have been given a modern upgrade, and either way, these items will totally find a place in your wardrobe even though it's not 2002 anymore.
