Labels & Lacquer Travel Guide: 7 Space-Saving Packing Hacks
The Labels and Lacquer girls aren’t known for packing lightly, but we also don’t want to be lugging heavy suitcases through the busy city streets of Hong Kong. Needless to say, we’ve been doing research on how to maximize space in our suitcases and are trying to be really careful with what we pack— for once.
Typically, our method is something like “better safe than sorry,” and we wind up bringing our entire wardrobe with us wherever we go. But, not this time around.
Here are seven packing tips that we’re taking into consideration in our efforts to bring only the necessities. And if you’re planning any trips, you may want to give these a try, too.
Trust us, if you’re the type of person who has to sit on their suitcase to get it to close like we do, then you’re really going to appreciate these ways of making packing a breeze. Especially when you’re on a humid spring break trip! No sweating while towing heavy luggage for you— because that’s really not a good look, anyways, now is it?
1. Put As Much As You Can In Your Shoes
Store socks, perfume bottles and whatever you can fit inside of your shoes to save a little extra room.
2. Make Toiletries Travel Size
Buying travel size toiletries is always a good idea, but for those things that you have to have that come in more than 3 ounce bottles, try storing just enough to get you through the trip in contact cases. Pretty brilliant, huh?
3. Keep Tangling At A Minimum By Using Cling Wrap For Jewelry

Jewelry can be tricky to pack, but not if you’ve got a roll of cling wrap handy. No more packing jewelry into pouches that take up too much space anyways. Simply lay it all flatly on top of your clothing, without having to worry about tangling. Genius!
4. Roll Or Lay Flat, Don’t Fold
The Internet suggests rolling your clothes to maximize space, but we’ve learned from personal experience that lying clothes flat works well, too. The bottom line is, don’t fold as you would normally.
5. Store Cords In Glasses Cases

Wrapping up phone chargers and other cords inside of a glasses case is a great way to keep up with them and keep them from getting tangled.
6. Use A Button For Earrings

To keep earring pairs together, put them through loose buttons.
7. Store Shoes In Shower Caps

To keep shoes from getting anything else dirty, place them inside of shower caps. That way, they won’t be rolling around in your suitcase at any point during the trip.
